Culture tours

Several Albanian cities are particularly famous for their cultural and historical legacies, many dating back to the 6th century BC, the heyday of architecture, painting and sculpture.

Albania is also famous for its folklore which mirrors its people’s culture and joie de vivre. Our tour will offer you the opportunity to marvel at the wonderful scenery but also to discover the relics of an earlier civilisation, architectural gems and national customs and traditions.

One example is our Tour 4 (7 days): Tirana – Lezha – Shkodra – Durres – Kruja – Tirana – Fier – Berat – Tirana

In Lezha we will visit the Scanderbeg tomb, final resting place of the famous Albanian national hero. Seven kilometres away are hunting grounds with an architecturally interesting lodge. In Shkodra you will view the castle ruins of Rozafa, the Catholic Church and other sights. The Mesi Bridge over Kiri River is also worthwhile seeing.

The tour then takes us on to Durres, one of Albania’s oldest cities (627 BC) and with the country’s biggest port where we will view the imposing Byzantine city ramparts and the Roman amphitheatre museum. In Kruja we will visit the fortress where the Skanderbeg Museum is housed.

Our programme for Tirana includes the National Museum, Scanderbeg Square and other sights. One of the country’s most famous excavation sites is Apollonia, 12 kilometres from Fier where we will view the amphitheatre and the inner courtyard of the monastery with a Byzantine church, probably dating from the 14th century.

Berat is known as the City with 1000 Windows and has several museums. Here we will visit the fortress overlooking the town and make a stop at the Onufri Museum to view paintings of the famous painter and his son Nikolla. Mosques and Byzantine churches can be viewed in the old part of the city.
