Open Regional Fund – GTZ project
Welcome to the treasures of the Balkan!
This web site has been set up to promote tourism in the western Balkan states of Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina as well as in the Serbian region on the middle reach of the Danube. These countries may be nearby in the geographical sense, but are often quite distant in terms of knowledge and awareness.
Through this site and by its participation in a wide range of conferences and trade fairs, the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is aiming to help increase awareness for these destinations and to present partners which can deal competently with the resulting demand. The GTZ has initiated this and other projects to achieve the goal of promoting the economy and employment through tourism in the transformation countries. This site is linked with the national tourism organisations and the participating agencies. It presents the attractions of the individual countries, provides interesting information and enables direct contact with the travel agencies and other bodies.
The GTZ has commissioned HESSELMANN & ASSOCIATES, Berlin, and fmk (Fleischhauer Marketing Kommunikation), Hennef, to train the national tourism organisations and selected agencies with particular regard to the group and bus tour market. This training took place in Spring 2008 with workshops and targeted coaching. All the countries and agencies operated a joint stand at the RDA workshop in Cologne, the largest international trade fair for this segment.
The participants came together again from 29th to 31st October in Budva / Becici, Montenegro, for a brief on the RDA workshop. The aim of this meeting was to evaluate the workshop, to set the course for 2009 and to further develop their joint website. The main focus was on intensifying cooperation between the agencies and tourism organisations. Thus the foundation was laid for cross-national, theme-orientated travel packages which will be on offer in 2009 in cooperation with the various travel agencies.
