The cultural inheritance of Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia
Day 1: SARAJEWO
On arriving at Sarajevo we will bring you to your hotel where you can check in and have lunch. They you will visit the Old Town of Bascarsija, the Oriental quarter, where you can watch traditional craftsmen hammering copper and brass and creating filigree works of art. The Beg Mosque, the synagogues and the Christian and Orthodox churches all reflect the city’s long history. (Evening meal at the hotel).
Day 2: BANJA LUKA – BIHAC
After breakfast we depart for Banja Luka, the economic and cultural centre of northern Bosnia where we will have lunch. We will then take a sightseeing stroll along Gospodska Street and the wonderful tree-lined boulevards. This former Roman settlement is regarded as the loveliest city in northern Bosnia. The River Vrbas lends this festival location a special charm. We will then continue on to Bihac where we will have our evening meal and spend the night.
Day 3: BIHAC – PLITVICER LAKES
After breakfast you will drive to the Plitvicer Lakes, Croatia’s largest national park and the oldest in South East Europe. Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, the park has 16 beautiful lakes with crystal clear turquoise water which are fed by countless rivers and streams. We return to the hotel in the afternoon (evening meal and overnight stay).
Day 4: JAJCE
After breakfast we will visit the picturesque city of Jajce, steeped in the history of Bosnia & Herzegovina. 70 kilometres south of Banja Luka, the city was the capital and royal seat of the country before being conquered by the Osmanian Empire. There is still much evidence of the days of the kings and other eras to be seen. After the tour you will have time to wander around by yourself. Later, evening meal and overnight stay.
Day 5: TRAVNIK – MOSTAR
Our tour of Travnik commences with the Sarena Mosque. The Old Town and fortress are very well preserved. The sights include the birthplace of Ivo Andric, Nobel Prize Winner for Literature. We will then have lunch in a traditional restaurant before travelling on to Mostar. (Evening meal and overnight stay)
Day 6: MOSTAR
Our walk leads us through the picturesque Old Town to the city’s famous landmark – Stari most – the Old Bridge, nearby which is the Karadoz Beg Mosque. Here you will take a trip through time and visit various sights. We then continue by bus to Blagaj, the source of Buna River, the second largest river flowing into the Adriatic Sea. Traditional fish specialities are on the menu for lunch. Fortified by a lovely meal we then go on to the medieval town of Pocitelju, often termed as a living museum. Our return route will take us to the imposing Kravica waterfalls and the village of Medjugorje where the Virgin Mary is supposed to have appeared before a group of youths in the 1980s. Return to hotel, evening meal and overnight stay.
Day 7:
Our tour ends in Sarajevo. We will accompany you to the airport, wish you bon voyage and hope to see you again!
